What Is Thyroid and Endocrine Surgery?
The thyroid gland is located in the front of the neck and plays a key role in regulating metabolism and many important body functions. Thyroid nodules, goiter, overactive or underactive thyroid function, and thyroid cancer are among the most common conditions that may require surgical treatment.
During thyroid and endocrine surgery, special attention must be paid to protecting the nerves that control the vocal cords and the parathyroid glands responsible for calcium balance, both of which are located very close to the thyroid gland. For this reason, thyroid surgery requires significant experience and precision. Modern techniques such as intraoperative nerve monitoring may be used when necessary.
